Asthma is a serious health problem that can threaten your child’s life if not treated properly. While with treatment the risk of severe asthma attacks can be reduced many parents also want to be sure their children do not get too much medication.
By following spirometry we are better able to assess your child’s asthma and make sure it is under control. Sometimes medications can be reduced or stopped safely reducing the cost of care and the risk of side effects. While in other situations we can detect worsening asthma and provide care that could prevent a trip to the ER or a hospitalization.
Lab tests for asthma like allergy screenings may also be deemed appropriate as most children with asthma have allergies and the two are related. Genetics also play a role. Kids whose parents have allergies or asthma are more likely to have them, too, because the tendency to develop these conditions is often inherited.
