Whether or not you will have your baby boy circumcised is a personal decision. For some the decision is simple because it is rooted in religious or cultural beliefs, and for others it is more complicated. It may be because of concerns about hygiene, or social reasons like wanting to have their son look like other men in the family.
The American Academy of Pediatrics now endorses elective circumcision for males. We recommend if parents choose to have circumcision done it be done later outside the hospital. We feel this is better because it allows the mother to recover and if breastfeeding makes sure the milk is in before stressing the infant with the procedure. We will guide you through what to expect and whether we perform the procedure or not, we are available to provide advice for circumcision care.
